Two Sides Of The Moon
Two Sides of the Moon

By 1975, every member of The Who had released some sort of solo album, except for Keith. So that year, Keith decided to remedy that situation by...recording a solo album. Most people might have expected him to put out a record where he just drummed for 40 minutes, or at least made the drums a more prominent instrument than they ordinarily are; I would have bought that. But Keith never did like to do what people expected of him. He decided to record an album where he actually sang.

I'd like to point out right about here that, besides lead vocals on "Bell Boy" and "I Need You", Keith had never really sang before. People who knew him all claim there's a reason why Keith never sang. Basically any solo album by Keith Moon was not going to win any Grammys.

The list of contributors for this album is huge. It seems Keith got everyone and his brother to play on his solo album. The result? Well, it depends on who you ask.

Critics tend to rip Two Sides of the Moon to shreds. But I look at Keith's efforts like this: it's not meant to be taken seriously. At least, I'm fairly certain Keith wasn't recording this straight-faced. When you listen to Two Sides of the Moon, and remember that Keith spent most of his life trying to make people laugh, well, the album is moderately enjoyable. BUT, you still have to be a Who/Moonie fan to "get" the joke.

If you've never heard any of the songs from the album, go listen to Radio Moon. A few tracks have been posted there!
